Making our kids street smarter
Walcha Central school may be isolated but this doesn’t mean that our kids are not being exposed to the range of complex issues that require them to make choices to protect themselves. Street smart handbooks are critical to our students deepening their understanding of the entire range of areas that underpin self care.
This resource not only is used in PDHPE lessons but as a resource for developing students reading and comprehension skills. it is invaluable because they see connection between what they are reading and real life. A resource such as this also provides insight and knowledge of things that young people may feel they are unable to or too embarrassed to ask about.
They are used for not only those leaving but as young as Stage 4. The topics and information within supports our wellbeing lessons as well.

A superb publication. We will subscribe to this publication annually (140 copies) as long as it is available.

Very well written. Appropriate topics, approached in a frank informative manner and written in an appealing way. I distributed the book to our Yr 12s, many of whom are preparing to leave town to work or study in the city or neighbouring centres.

I’ve shown the publication to our Principal, who thinks it’s fantastic. Very user friendly – clear, concise and easy to read.
